Inspiration Challenge – May the Fourth Be With You

In This Week's Challenge, Today's Feed

Hey Writer,

Remember me?

I’m kind of like Schrodinger’s Cat. Kind of. I have a 50% chance of creating an inspiration challenge! Actually, that’s exactly it. I’m a writer after all, and there is a 50% chance my words might escape my own head. That’s all of us, but unlike the kitty in question, we have the choice to be inside or outside of the box. Both halves of the creative process are equally alive and atomic.

That’s a-lotta metaphor for a re-boot, and maybe in fact a simile. Let’s try it out.

This week, take until Thursday afternoon to cultivate an idea. Thursday evening pick a title – just the title. And then Friday, Saturday, and Sunday write and post your piece.

This is a bit of a stretch-it-out challenge, but by design it helps us to get re-started. Think about all the parts of your writing process in the way  Einstein did about Schrodinger’s thought experiment: the cat’s existence should not depend on the observer.

The writer’s work is alive and present in all parts of the process, not just what is observable to the audience or reader. Writing is a joyful process that is simultaneously complicated and simple. The objective of this week’s challenge is not the words, but the acknowledgement of how writing fits into the box of our daily lives, and keeps us fully alive.

It also gives us a chance to cruise around the new site features and get ourselves re-set-up. You will want to edit your profile, find your private group space where you can store drafts and ideas on the fly – great when you are at work, at a coffee shop, or at your secret hide out in the forest. It’s a virtual notebook.

In addition, I will be figuring out how to best use the new format here so that it makes sense when others join us. I’m not quite sure yet where our weekly pieces will go, with respect to the inspiration challenge post itself. Please when you post, do what is natural for you – what makes sense when you look at it – so that I can see how it makes sense to you/us as community members.

Please post questions (in the private community) too if you have them! It will be great for me to find and learn the answers. Thank you xo
