Leaves of Yellow
Written by: Collette Cottingham
“There is a tree in the garden of my home. The leaves reflect the color of my mood. This tree offers a knowledge of reflection to my family. A gift you might say.”
“Or a warning”
“Very funny Ja. It probably was a warning. My family didn’t enjoy a red leaf mood.
“Who would!”
Wntzar looked to the East. She let the wind whip through her hair. A storm was coming, “Today I sit here in the forest of Baneen looking at the yellow leaves surrounding me. Am I in a yellow mood?”
“Yellow is a color of hope and optimism. I hope you are feeling yellow today Wntzar.”
“I am tired of waiting. I have patience, but I yearn for the ending. I am eager for the journey to be over.”
“We have only begun my sister.”
“I need the outcome. I am to exhausted to see this journey to the finish. I am not ready.”
Ja took her staff and sliced it thought the rocks and into the sand. “You are ready, you have carried the weight for a long time. It is waning on you. You are surrounded by strong daughters of the universe who are very equipped to stand beside you. We will be your strength.”
“I hate war. I hate evil. Why are people this way?”
“They are weak and full of ignorance.”
“Sometimes the weak and ignorant prevail.”
“Or worse, sometimes stupidity prevails.”
“Ja, you make me laugh”
“I had to, I didn’t want the leaves from your home tree to turn red or worse black!”
“Yes my brothers’ would become quite alarmed if all the leaves turned black.”
“Wntzar, you choose the difficult path, and I understand why.”
“You learn the most from the difficult path.” Wntzar paused and turned toward Ja, “Plus they wouldn’t suspect it.”
“Yes, because no sane person would take the Baneen trail, yet here we are.”
“Yes, here we are forging on.”
“No one else I would rather fight with than you Wntzar.”
“Thank you Ja, I needed you today.”
“Yah, you did, but I will probably need you tomorrow Wntzar, this path is rough.”
“Yes it is, the light will pull us through.”
“The light will probably have to drag me through kicking and screaming.”
“Some days are like that Ja”
“Thankfully not every day”
Wntzar felt a tear roll down her cheek. Tears were a good sign. A sign of release.
Wallnr stared at the tree in the courtyard of the palace. Within a few minutes the leaves went from yellow to blue. Wallnr let out a little chuckle, he could tell Wntzar was in a mood.
