We live in a sensual world, and we are sensual beings ourselves.

As writers, we are tasked with the art of setting the emotions on stage, but then not always shining on them directly. It’s a subtle game, allowing the reader to connect with emotions and feelings in the story, and then remaining separate from their expression or their acceptance.

To understand this, pick your favourite works – story, book, or movie – and notice how the plot uses the predominant emotions or feelings in the piece as the back bone of the actual details.

For your piece this week, pick a feeling and use it as the back bone of your story. See what you can write around it as support to that feeling.
