The Zone
Written by: Diamond Rose
Ding goes the bell
The sound of locked doors and caged birds
Trying to fly
Not knowing how or why
I can’t go in
I can’t give my freedom as if it’s a sin
Ding goes the bell
Its rings loud and uninviting
Standing frozen in the lot
Wondering to go or to not
Knowledge is great
I’m always wanting to learn more
But why do I have to give up my core
I can learn on my own
Especially when I’m in the zone
I don’t need your walls
Your chalkboard and rules
Why do I need to know what happened so long ago
I’m focused on now
I wish for this you would allow
The ring of the bells
Tells me it’s time to go in
It’s time to clip your wings
I wonder why I have no voice to sing
I can’t go in
I can’t give my freedom as if it’s a sin
As the last of the sheep
They go in for the teachers to keep
I can’t go in
So I run towards what’s considered a sin
My freedom is calling
My life awaits
I have to follow my own
Because I’m in the zone
